The Hairy Woodpecker (Dryobates villosus) is a true favourite with birders and non-birders alike! He's a firm favourite here in the studio too! Hairy Woodpeckers are the largest of our two woodpeckers in Nova Scotia. Cute, never pushy on the feeders. When living on St Margaret's Bay, I used to love watching our resident woodpeckers feeding the babies! I can also appreciate his penchant for peanuts.
