Fused-Glass Hanging Crow Ornament
A black fused glass crow hanging ornament. Glossy black fused glass with a hint of sparkle.
Do you have an eye for shiny things? Crows (Corvus brachyrhynchos) are associated with intelligence, mystery and magic. They're a popular choice for gifts appearing widely in folklore, literature and mythology. These crows were created with a hint of aventurine black glass on their wings. The glass has tiny metallic flakes inside it which make it sparkle and shimmer.
This crow gift will appeal to anyone who appreciates the symbolism, uniqueness, and natural beauty associated with these intelligent and fascinating birds.
Available in three sizes. Also get perched crows or other crow/blackbird themed glass art!
How your bird was made
Your Crow is all glass. No paints or glazes make up the colour, and moulds weren't used for the shape - it's cut by hand. The coloured and patterned parts of the birds plumage are layers of crushed glass. The coloured glass "frit" is carefully applied to the clear glass - it's a bit like playing with sand! For perching birds, metal wire "legs" are sandwiched between the layers. It's a bit of a balancing act getting the bird on the kiln shelf. Simply slot the birds legs in the detachable stand and he's ready to shine!
The kiln firing takes at least 14-16 hours plus cooling time, and the kiln isn't opened until the glass has cooled. After firing, hanging birds have a small hole drilled in their head or neck using a diamond bit and a water bath. The bird sun-catchers dangle from discrete clear thread. The maker initials each bird on its back.
